Sunny Saturdays

I love days like this. It's somewhat warm outside. I have all my blinds and doors open. It's cheerful in the bright house. I can hear Aaron outside with his ax and saw working away on the firewood because it's going to be another cold night. I can look out the window and see Boo laying in the sun. All my plants inside seem to somehow in their silent way be rejoicing over the sunbeams shining in. I can walk down my hall and hear the breathing in and breathing out of my precious Keagan lost in dream land. Gil has a nice fresh tank of water to swim in....The house is clean, the bills are paid, life is good.

Cancer

* Pictured abover is my mom and brother*
I hate cancer!!! I have lost my mother to cancer, my godmother to cancer, my dad is a cancer survivor, and I just found out today that my grandpa has colon cancer and as we speak is in the hospital for emergency surgery. I know I'm not special. Most people know someone who has died, survived, or they themselves have lived through or are fighting cancer. Thats the problem. Cancer is not biased. It does not care whether you are black or white, young or old, what religion you call yourself, how much money you have, or how well you watch your health. There isn't much I can do in this matter. I know there are dedicated researchers out there who spend there whole lives searching for clues, for cures....And then there are people out there like me who do the fundraisers and the walks to support all the research and cures. And I just hope one day in the future we have an answer! And we can start saving all these innocent lives with cures easier than putting them through the pure misery of chemo and raditation just to find out that they did it all for nothing....

What is Keagan going to be tomorrow....

Every day is a mystery in the mind of my little boy. Each morning when he wakes up it is something completely different and it amuses me to find out what I'll be dealing with for the day.
Today happened to be Lightning McQueen. I thought he was a dinosaur and he very quickly corrected me and told me he was Lightning McQueen. (Those of you with kids and the movie "Cars" you know who I'm talking about.")
Just a quick list of the creatures I have woken up to are:
A dinosaur
A lion
A dragon
A horse, and he actually galloped down our hallway with his cousin Torrie
A big truck
Lightning McQueen
and oh of course I can't forget Keagan. Some days he gets mad and lets me know that he is "just Keagan, MOMMY!!!!."
Tomorrow is a new day and I look forward to (not at 5am but what choice do I have in the matter) to hear what creature I will be dealing with for the day.

D Day.... D standing for the Dentist...

So I decided that after not going to the dentist for a year and a half it was probably about time. I made the appointment 2 weeks ago and never wrote down the dentist name or their address and phone number. Oops. I was just trying to doom myself. So the day is here and I have to leave work in a few short hours to get there. I have no clue where I'm going or anything so I look up the name of the dentist I THINK I made my appointment with. Write down the address, do a quick map quest and against everyone else's word to call to verify to make sure I'm right~I'm on my way.
I get to where I think I'm going about 15 mins. early and think, wow, that was easy...But then I notice the name of this dentist is different from the name I have written down. No biggie, I turn around go back where I came from and keep looking. Still don't see it. I decide to call them to make sure and I get their machine. Turn back around still not seeing it so I decide to go to the only dentist I see. Go in there, feeling good, ask to make sure I'm at the right place and they look at me like I'm crazy! Okay, wrong place! How did I know this was going to happen....I ask them if they know where this place is and they, again, look at me like I'm crazy. So back on the road...Try to call the dentist and get their machine again, and again, and again times maybe 10! At this point I'm ticked! I leave a message telling them I'm lost and only 15 mins. late to my appointment and I start to head back to work. I just knew the girls were going to laugh at me. Well about 5 mins. later I finally get a call and they ask where I am. I told them at the end of their road and their reply was, "Oh, that's not our road. We're on E. Blackstock!" I was like, "Well the yellow pages says Reidville Rd." And she goes on to tell me that that is their new building that they won't be moving into for about another 3 weeks or so....WTH??? ANNOYED! Anyways, long story short, I fly to the correct place, they clean my teeth, pick at me because I'm so afraid I'll have a cavity, and then tell me the good news that I'm good to go!!! YIPPIE! So all this stress over finding the damn dentist that I had dreaded all day and in the end it turned out well! Thank goodness I'm good for another 6 month~And have 6 months to find them at their new location ahead of time... ;)

Making a difference....And getting in the game...

Part 2 of a 3 part series...
Today's sermon was a continuation of last weeks. He talked more about how to become involved not just in your church life but in your daily lives. I feel like all this is tying in with everything I have going on. My presidential pledge, how church needs me, my family needs me. This three part series he's doing is all just coming at the perfect time.
He talked about the 6 main areas of the church (first impressions) that they really need volunteers for. Them being:
Parking Team
Guest Services
Information Center
Greeters
Ushers
and the Common Grounds (cafe')
After he laid everything out on the line he pointed to several flyers laid out on the stage. The flyers were descriptions of what each volunteer job would require and a small space to put your name and number to be contacted if you're interested. He then said the band was going to play us a closing song to end our day and if you were possibly interested in any of these to please "GET OFF THE BENCH (tying the theme in) AND GET IN THE GAME." The response was overwhelming! I couldn't believe my eyes at the number of folks who were getting up and willing to volunteer their time. Even if it's only one Sunday a month. It was incredible!
Next week is a big week. It ends the three part series on the day of the Superbowl. The church has a BIG day planned and I'm so excited to see whats in store for us.
