The Longest Trip Home

So I am reading an awesome book right now! I'm a bookworm and have read lots and most I like but this book has really grabbed my attention. It's called the Longest Trip Home. It's a childhood memoir by John Grogran who is the author of Marley & Me.
This book is hilarious, touching, insightful! I am completely enthralled with it and I'm only half way through it. A couple of quotes that have really grabbed my attention are:

Talking about the poor kids that came and stayed with him for a couple of weeks:
"Despite our differences of places and privilege, we were all just kids. Kids who all loved goofing off, forgot manners, etc. We said the same prayers to the same God, yet God had not blessed us the same. What I learned in school about all men being created equal, might be true, but I had discovered that all children did not grow up equal. Never again could I pretend the playing field was level, that all kids got the same shot at life's boundless possibilities.

"Mr. Grogan tell me this, are you going to be a tree that spreads its roots deep and reaches proudly to the sky? Or are you going to be a weed that bends in any breeze and never grows to each full potential?"

I look forward to reading the second half of this book!!
